This painting captures that rare, magical window of time when the dry landscape is transformed into a natural gallery of color. I used the masterclass technique of indirect painting to build over time the shifting luminosity of the desert. The piece began with a radiant base layer, establishing an inner glow that vibrates beneath the subsequent applications of paint. A delicate glaze was then applied in the second stage.
The painting is brought to its final, high-energy state with a third layer of brilliant opaque colors. These final strokes define the blooming flowers with a sculptural presence, allowing the highlights to sit proudly on the surface while the underlying glazes provide a sense of vast, sun-drenched space. This layered approach creates a "living" color experience, where the desert’s ruggedness and its delicate blooms feel equally eternal.
